Golf

Golf is a sport whose objective is to introduce a ball into the holes that are distributed on the course with the least number of strokes, using for each type of stroke one of fourteen clubs and a minimum of five clubs.   In 1744, the first players’ association was founded in Scotland, and in 1745, also in Great Britain, the first golf regulations were created. The first golf associations were the Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers (1744) and The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (1754).   The modern game of golf is believed to have originated in Scotland in the 15th century. The sport was part of the Olympic program at the 1900 Paris Olympics and later at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics, where only men’s competitions were held, and the United States and Canada were the only participants. At the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, after being absent for one hundred and twelve years, golf returned to the Olympic Games.
