Boxing is a combat sport, which has been part of the Olympic disciplines since the first games in 1896. It is estimated that boxing was one of the first competitions in the ancient Greek Olympic Games, along with athletics and wrestling, around 688 BC.
All amateur boxers are classified within the twelve Olympic weight categories. The bouts do not exceed three rounds of 2 or 3 minutes each. The gloves are heavier than those of professional boxers and padded equipment is used.
