A warm welcome to Dominican Athletes
The event was hosted last Wednesday July 26th at the Millenium Gloucester Hotel with over 200 attendees. At said event, asides the participation of the Dominican Ambassador, Felipe Vicini, president of CRESO congratulated the Dominican sportsmen for their classification into the Olympic games, facts he highlighted as already a victory itself. At the same time, on behalf of the 35 athletes whom form the delegation, Gabriel Mercedes, athlete whom was standard-bearer for said country in the opening ceremony, thanked CRESO and his country embassy for the warm welcome and support.
The Dominican Republic athletes will participate in 10 disciplines of which five are supported by CRESO, which has invested in the recent years in high-performance sports. Their support has been provided via supporting the athletes training regimes alongside scholarships and some educational tools which contribute to their professional formation. Some of the disciplines supported by CRESO are athletics, Taekwondo, and weight-lifting.
The evening was enlivened by violinist Aisha Syed, whom played the Dominican Republic national anthem, and by the band Latin Flavour, whose bachata, jazz and meringue rhythms delighted all the attendees. Asides, all guests present at the event had the opportunity to enjoy a photography exhibit of the delegation athletes of this Caribbean nation, organized by the cultural affairs council of the Dominican Embassy in London, Marlen Vázquez.
